Property Description

When a growing family set their sights on a new home site, an early 1900s barn located on over 25 acres in the heart of Virginia Hunt County offered a unique opportunity.

Completed in partnership with acclaimed residential architecture firm Third Street Architecture and custom home bulders Monumental Contractors, the goal was to honor the barn’s original form while introducing a sense of warmth and livability.

What began as a structure rooted in utility was carefully reimagined as an inviting, highly functional living space layered with character, with volume and scale driving many of the design decisions.

Inside, soaring ceilings and exposed structural elements allow the barn’s rustic architectural details to remain the focal point while softer materials and thoughtful detailing were introduced to introduce balance and approachability.

Outside, an updated facade employs James Hardie siding and Shou Sugi Bahn charred cedar from Delta Millworks to blend the best of modern practicality while maintaining the rustic charm of the agrarian structure.

Completed in 2025, what was once purely utilitarian now supports a more personal rhythm of life, equally suited for quiet mornings and hosting family and friends.
