Windover Heights Redux

In Vienna, Virginia, a strategic renovation delivers modern sensibilities to an outdated floorplan

WINDOVER HEIGHTS REDUX

Property Description

Located in the desirable Windover Heights neighborhood of Vienna, Virginia, this strategic whole home renovation delivers a fresh perspective for a family of 6.

While the home was built in 2017, the style and functionality of the floor plan was not serving the homeowners, who sought a more functional and elevated experience for daily living.

Led by award-winning residential architecture firm Ven Studio Architects and Sage Construction, the renovation focused on three specific areas of the home: the kitchen, the primary suite, and a new sunroom.

Starting with the kitchen, the original French country-style design did not fit the aesthetic of the rest of the home, so the design team created a new format that enhanced a once-constricted layout. With a new cooking, food prep, and beverage zones established, the kitchen was appropriately reimagined to establish a more fluid circulation related to the rest of the house, including the addition of new cabinets by Mouser Cabinetry, new Cosentino Dekton Collection Countertops, new windows by WeatherShield, and the introduction of a new door adjacent to the range to provide direct access to the new grilling balcony.

Upstairs, the primary suite and ensuite bathroom were completely transformed to achieve a more open and unified space with large windows and direct access to a new private balcony created with Timbertech Decking and Trex Deck Railing. The original bathroom layout was linear and double-loaded across a central walkway, leaving wasted space throughout the large footprint. A large wet room that houses double shower heads and a freestanding tub was arranged at one end, which allowed for a custom 9 foot vanity that was centered on three new large windows overlooking the backyard. Maintaining the existing cathedral ceilings allows light into the space through six new windows. To control glare and bright morning light, an automated shade system was added above the vanity.
